I was told that Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway was going to be funny. Really – I thought I was prepared. But you guys. Seriously. Audrey, Wait! is absolutely hilarious. So much fun while still having enough of an edge to give it depth.Audrey Cuttler breaks up with her boyfriend right before he gets a record deal. The main problem? He got the deal because of the song he wrote about their break-up. (This is where the Audrey, Wait part comes in.) Now Audrey is stalked by paparazzi and interview offers. She is totally overwhelmed and embarrassed by all the attention. Especially since she wants to make something happen between her and her coworker James. So, James is basically perfect. I loved his character in Audrey, Wait! He was patient with all the hoopla in Audrey’s life, but he definitely let his opinions be known as well. The perfect blend of easy-going and tough. (Feel free to swoon.)Audrey missteps a lot when navigating through the new life she has been given. Making out with a jerk in another band? Not her best moment. Especially when it piles a lot more negative attention on her. Fighting with her best friend? Understandable, but stressful. That part actually gave me pause – because Victoria, while being a loyal best friend, was also giving a pretty good impression of a glory hound. The book is full of music references, and I absolutely loved them all. They fit my musical tastes wonderfully and it definitely helped me connect with Robin Benway’s vision.Basically, all fans of young adult have to check out Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway. If you love to laugh, love great characters and enjoy a great story – it is a can’t miss!
