Stolen Away by Alyxandra Harvey takes us into the world of the fae. Alyxandra Harvey obviously has a limitless imagination, y’all! From vampires to ghosts, and now to faeries. While I definitely had more issues with Stolen Away than with Haunting Violet, I still enjoyed the story. Plus, hello: absolutely gorgeous cover.I only had one real issue with the book, but unfortunately it was a pretty big one. You have to suspend disbelief a little to get through - and I don’t mean in a “duh Allison, there are faeries” kind of way. I mean that the characters make decisions and act in ways that don’t seem to come naturally to them.Their purpose seemed to be to work to fit the plot. Some of the actions they took or things they said made more sense to Stolen Away’s progression than any cohesive characterization. That always bugs me, but it wasn’t so blatant here that I ever wanted to quit reading.So, despite the fact that I enjoyed the characters’ personalities, I never felt any connection to them at all. Definitely a departure from the way I felt about the characters Alyxandra Harvey wrote in Haunting Violet.Eloise Hart and her friends discover a world of faeries over the course of this book. All thanks to Eloise’s Aunt Antonia, who got mixed up in it years before. All the characters find their way into the world in different ways, which definitely kept the plot intriguing.Once they finally come together, Stolen Away gets very interesting. From the infamous “don’t eat the food or you’ll be stuck here” bit to tornadoes to creepy beeish, buglike thingies – you won’t be bored!Stolen Away by Alyxandra Harvey definitely fell short of my expectations, but still had enough quirkiness and originality to keep me reading. I’d recommend trying her other books first!
