Mad Love

Mad Love - Suzanne Selfors Y'all, I like romance and I like quirky, original characters. This book should have been a home run! Unfortunately, I failed to connect with either the characters or the story.Alice had to deal with a lot over the course of the book, and as the story opens - we are introduced to all the stress she carries on her shoulders. Normally that would make the reader sympathetic of her plight and invested in reading until she gets to a happier place in her life. Unfortunately, I couldn't make myself get interested in her story. I did like skateboarder dude (in fact, he was my fave character), the love interest, but he wasn't prominent enough to carry the book on his own.One thing I did appreciate was the mental problems of Alice's mother. I don't want to talk about it too much and spoil anything, but I thought her disease was handled very well. I saw in Suzanne's author notes that she has experience with that disease in her family, so it's awesome she made it a part of the book.I didn't care for the plot at all. I never felt anything at all for Errol unfortunately. I was really surprised when I failed to connect with his story! The writing and overall characterization wasn't necessarily sub-standard...there was just something that didn't hit with me personally. So...even though this wasn't a book for me, I think younger readers might appreciate it more.
